Winter activities in the mountains

On the hill above Banská Štiavnica, Nový zámok (New Chateau) stands since 1571 bearing the name of the hill Frauenberg or Dievčenský or Panenský hrad in Slovak (Maiden Castle or Virgin Castle).

The Neo-classical manor house in the village of Oščadnica in the region of Kysuce in the north-west of Slovakia is from the turn of the 19^th and 20^th centuries. It used to be a hunting residence of Count Ballestrem.

Bratislava is the ideal starting point for a trip to the Pajštún Castle next the village Borinka in the Malé Karpaty Mts.

An extensive, quiet park in the village of Beladice - Pustý Chotár, which is located  just a few kilometres away from Nitra, features a Neoclassical manor house.

Fans of history will certainly visit the ruins of the Branč Castle towering on the easily discernible cone-shaped hill at the altitude of 475 m above the village Podbranč north-east of Senica in south-west of Slovakia.

Sitno, the tallest mountain of the Štiavnické vrchy Mts., (1,009 m), dominates the south-western horizon of Banská Štiavnica and offers a fabulous view. Three faces of the mountain are steep, almost inaccessible, and on the fourth side the Castle of Sitno, or better said its ruins, stand. It was built in the 13th century on the site of a primeval fortified castle. It is in ruins since the 18th century.
