The Plavecký hrad Castle, subject of many legends, is the most important attraction of the western slopes of the Malé Karpaty Mts.

The Castle of Sklabiňa towers on the edge of the basin Turčianska kotlina and the mountains Veľká Fatra. It was first mentioned in 1242. After 1320, the Sklabiňa Castle became the seat of the county administration of Turiec.

One of the castles in the region of Považie that guarded the western borders of the Kingdom of Hungary was the Tematín Castle. Its romantic ruins standing on top of the side ridge of the Považský Inovec Mts. are visible from a large distance.

Fans of history will perhaps climb the hill towering above the village Podhradie in the Považský Inovec Mts. in west Slovakia with the Topoľčiansky hrad Castle on its top.

The head of the Turňa county resided originally at the Turniansky hrad Castle, ruins of which stand on top of the conspicuous cone-shaped hill west of Košice in the east of Slovakia. Rare flora grows on its limestone slope including the local endemit Onosma tornensis, which can not be found anywhere else in the world.

The ruins of Uhrovec Castle tower in the mountains Strážovské vrchy in western Slovakia. It is one of the most valuable castles in the Romanesque style in Slovakia from the 13th century.

The Castle Hrádok built on a small hill near the river Belá is situated in the town Liptovský Hrádok in the north of Slovakia. Though several versions of a story narrating the origin of the castle exist, one thing is certain: the first reference to the castle is from 1341.
