The religious monuments

Construction of churches as the buildings serving public Christian services started comparatively late in Slovakia. Although some archaeological research points to older traditions of sacral architecture, the first churches in the territory of Slovakia were most probably built only in the time of the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century.

Individual historic periods and its traces in Slovakia:

Romanesque period: basilicas (Banská Štiavnica, Bíňa, Diakovce, Spišská Kapitula), small single-nave churches (Dražovce, Hamuliakovo)
Gothic style: St Martins Minster in Bratislava  (influenced by the Viennese artists), St  Elisabeths Minster in Košice  (the east Slovak Gothic)
Renaissance style: the parish church in Sabinov
Baroque style: the University church in Trnava, the monastic church in Jasov
Classicist style: above all by the Evangelical churches in Banská Bystrica, Levoča, and Kremnica
