In the age of computers and fast cars we can think about how our ancestors used to live. They lived a practical life in harmony with nature. We can see this with our own eyes in the museums of folk architecture still inhabited by people – Čičmany and Vlkolínec or we can just visit the open-air museums which have not only traditional houses, furnishings and equipment but which offer also the Slovak handicrafts demonstrations.                       

This introductory verse suggests that we are going to follow the steps of one of the greatest Slovak writers, Pavol Ország Hviezdoslav. We are going to visit his native Orava, forester’s lodge under Babia hora, and the paths and places that inspired and motivated him to write lots of his masterpieces.

Not only because more than the third of its territory is occupied by forests, but also because in a relatively small area you can find many different species of plants and vestures, out of which many of them are world unique.

The caves which are open to the public belong to the real treasures of Slovakia. Some of them are well-known all around Europe and the world as well. Each of us will get impressed by stalactic and stalagmitic cascades, spectacular colour combinations in small lakes or giant ice filling.

In the vicinity of Devínska Nová Ves you can find the real natural jewels, unique in Slovakia. The sandstone formation in the area of Sandberg, monumental Wait`s Quarry, the Devín Castle Rock with its vivid history - a unique diversity of nature just a few kilometers from the centre of Bratislava.
