Žilina region is the third largest region in Slovakia. It is a highly varied area, as it features beautiful valleys with rivers and streams, agricultural land and forests, as well as uninhabited mountain ridges. TATRANSKÁ MADONNA – the biggest mosaic in the world created from the circulating coins. This work of art was created by 155 staff members of the POHOTOVOSŤ Company in September 2006 in order to remember the Slovak currency before Slovakia enters the common European currency.

The painting of the “merciful Virgin Mary of Trnava” can be found in the Baroque  Lady Chapel at the St. Nicolas Basilica in Trnava, the construction of which in years 1739 – 1741 was arranged by archbishop Imrich Esterházy.

The first electrically driven ski lift in Slovakia was built more than 70 years ago. The ski lift was festively used for the first time by Alexander Mach, the then Minister of Home Affairs of the Slovak State, in winter 1943.
