The famous rabbi Chatam Sófer was the pride of the Bratislava´s Jewish community. His vault has been preserved and nowadays it is part of the monumental memorial.

The oldest known inhabitant of Slovakia lived below the Tatras. more than 100 thousand years before. The evidence of his existence was found in the travertine monticule near Gánovce, the village situated below the Tatras. This also is the reason why it is called the Man of Gánovce.

Romans built the defensive system called Limes Romanus next to the river Danube. One of the advanced forts on the left side of this great European river stood next to the village of a Iža not far away from Komárno. Remains of this system represent one of the most important Roman monuments in Slovakia.

The winegrowing town of Modra, situated below the Malé Karpaty mountain range in western Slovakia is closely connected with Ľudovít Štúr, the representative of the national movement, who spent the last years of his creative life here. Besides the museum, there is his tombstone and two memorials to commemorate his life.

One of the most remarkable discoveries in Slovakia took place in the locality Myšia Hôrka in administrative territory of Spišský Štvrtok (district Poprad). Archaeologists dug out here the remains of a stone town from about 3,500 years ago.

On Gotická cesta (Gothic road) leading across Spiš and Gemer, besides ancient churches, an extraordinary memorial dedicated to the cultural message of prehistoric inhabitants of Slovakia can be admired.

The hill Bradlo above the town of Brezová is the place of rest of the great son of the Slovak nation - General Milan Rastislav Štefánik. The Barrow on the Bradlo is the destination of the participants of national festivals.

Andrej Hlinka, a priest and a politician, is the most famous native of Ružomberok and the most important figure of the Slovak political life of the 1st half of the 20th century. It is in this town that his mausoleum was placed.

The birthplace of the first man to codify the literary Slovak - Anton Bernolák -disappeared under the level of the Oravská priehrada dam. A church was the only building to remain of the village. It stands on the Slanický ostrov island. A memorial was built there to commemorate its famous native.

The inhabitants of the village of Očová, central Slovakia, can be proud of their famous native Matej Bel, an enlightened man who was called the great adornment of Hungary. In his honour a memorial was built in the village.

In 1369, Košice, as the first town in Europe, received the document of coat of arms from the sovereign. One can admire this artistically decorated memorial in the southern part of the main Košice square.

The memorial in front of the Slovak National Museum in Bratislava is the meeting place of the supporters of the common state of the Czechs and Slovaks. On 28th October, they celebrate the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic in 1918.

The autumn International Peace Marathon is one of the main events in the life of the town of Košice. The memorial with the statue of a marathon runner honours the winners and all participants of this race. It is placed on the Námestie Maratónu mieru square.

Many tragic events are connected with the years of the World War II. One of the saddest ones happened near the village of Nemecká, central Slovakia and a reverence memorial was built for its victims there.
