According to the Italian daily Corriere Della Sera, Košice ranks among the top ten world cities of the future. It got to the same category as Pittsburgh, Vladivostok or the Chinese city of Tianjin. The daily especially appreciated the development potential of the city with regard to investments and its strategic location.

Probably the longest-anticipated movie project in Slovakia has finally been completed. The best known folk hero renown for his actions, as he "took money from the rich and gave it to the poor" will have a premiere on silver screens on September 10. First time in history the viewers will see the actual story of Jánošík and not the one from constructed mythical legends.

The Slovak record for the largest hand-painted painting of the Liptov region was broken in Jasná on August 2, 2009. In Luková, at 1,670 metres above sea-level, 212 officially-registered participants managed to hand-paint Liptov's largest painting on a canvas covering 68 m2 that was spread on mountain terrain.

At the session in Spanish Sevilla on 27 June 2009, based on positive scientific evaluation of experts, 21 members of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee decided on the extension of the original cultural monument "Spišský hrad Castle and associated cultural monuments“, inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, by adding the historic town of Levoča.
