Slovenský raj Mts. stretch in the east of Slovakia. The landscape of this mountain range is highly attractive due to its karstic plateaux and narrows where the tourists climb over the roaring waterfalls and the surface karstic forms.
The territory of Slovenský raj is drained by the rivers Hornád and Hnilec that deepened two canyons - Prielom Hornádu in the north and the Stratenská dolina in the south. There are almost 200 caves and abysses but only the cave Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa, the most important European ice cave outside the Alps is accessible to public. It is inscribed in the UNESCO List of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Apart from Podlesok in the northern part and Dedinky in the southern side of the Slovenský raj, the biggest tourist centre is Čingov lying above the left hand bank of the Hornád. It is situated in the lower part of the canyon Prielom Hornádu, the most attractive part for tourists. The narrow 16 km long valley separates the marginal ridge from the mountain range. The best spot for views is the Tomášovský výhľad. The ascent to the rock terrace turned to south is worth the toil. The terrace offers a unique view of the lower part of the canyon. The tourists often make use of the 15 km long instructive trail Prielom Hornádu with 11 information boards.
Kláštorisko is the only tourist centre situated inside the mountain range; it is accessible only on foot. It contains a wonderful area of the former Carthusian monastery amidst the charming karstic landscape.
