The charm of tea has captivated also Bratislava. Enjoy an oasis right in the heart of a busy city, with a special calmness and aromas from other worlds. So where can you find such a place? Read on ...
Following the Velvet Revolution the tempo of life in Bratislava visibly accelerated. A market economy meant the city had more freedom and more possibilities, but also more city stress. It was during this period that the first islands of peace started to crop up around the city, bringing with them sublime aromas. We are talking about tearooms, of course. The tea culture has grown in popularity since then. Now there is a good handful of places where you can escape to a different reality.
Every tearoom has its own special charm, characterised by pleasant relaxing music and for the most part, sitting on the ground. In the small streets of the Old Town you can find the Pohoda tearoom on Radničná Street, just a few metres away from Hlavné námestie (Main Square). The Michalský dvor tearoom below Michael’s Gate is housed in a gallery and exhibits its own ceramics. You can find an exhibition of artistic works and more than 100 kinds of tea at the Čajovňa v podzemí on Ventúrska Street.
There are several places offering fine teas on Obchodná Street. An inconspicuous but very popular and friendly tearoom is Čajovňa My a mama. The vegetarian restaurant Góvinda offers mostly herbal and Ayurveda teas. The chill out bar Radosť has a long list of teas, long opening hours and a club feel about it. On Kollárovo námestie you can find Dobrá čajovňa.
Čajovňa u veselého slona on Radlinského Street near the Blumenthal Church also offers sitting in the garden with interesting lectures. The tearoom Čajovňa on Zámocká Street is tucked under Bratislava Castle. You can enjoy a unique forest environment and cosy atmosphere near the fireplace at the Horáreň Horský park. See you next time over a good cup of tea, wherever it may be ...
