The park surrounding Betliar manor house is the largest historical natural park in Slovakia, registered in the world historical gardens list since 1978. Its area of the amazing 81 ha presents not only precious species of trees, but also water structures, paths and historical buildings that make a harmonious and compact unit with the manor house itself.

Maybe you will be surprised to find out that there are wildwoods in Slovakia. Not the rainy ones, but our Slovak... One of them is Dobročský prales – National natural monument.

The charming landscape of hamlets is situated at the frontier between Slovakia and Morava. It is picturesque and replenished with fine views. The round forms often alternate with limestone rocks, which are protected phenomena on both sides of the frontier as the Protected landscape area of Biele Karpaty.

The Protected landscape area Cerová vrchovina stretches in the territory of the eponymous mountain range in the south of central Slovakia. This territory is unique in Slovakia because it is the landscape of extinguished volcanoes.

The PLA Dunajské luhy with abundant occurrence of waterfowl is among the very recently designated PLAs in Slovakia.

The dominant of the PLA Horná Orava lying in the north of Slovakia is the majestic mountain Babia hora. The PLA contains thick forest, humid peat bogs, typical villages as well as the “Sea of Orava” - the water reservoir.

The PLA Malé Karpaty occupies a substantial part of the eponymous mountain range, which separates the lowlands Záhorská and Podunajská.  The PLA represents the “green lungs“ of the mostly deforested and flat south-western Slovakia.

The mountain Zobor is the indivisible part of the old town Nitra in the west of Slovakia. It is the easternmost situated mountain of the Protected landscape area Ponitrie.

Protected landscape area Vihorlat stretches in the eponymous mountain range in the east of Slovakia. It is now densely forested mountain massif with the typical water body of the dam Zemplínska šírava in the background.

The lowland Záhorská nížina in the west of Slovakia is the proof that a flat landscape can also be attractive and interesting. It is coated by pine forest, and enjoys the reputation of a paradise for mushroom pickers. Valuable setting of pinewoods and the well preserved alluvial forest around the river Morava are legally protected since 1988 under the PLA Záhorie statute.
